THERAPIST

Annie Gress, MA

EDUCATION

5th-year Doctorate of Clinical Psychology student, The Wright Institute

The most important factor in successful therapy is a safe and trusting relationship between you and your therapist. I strive to create an authentic connection with you by listening closely to you with an open mind and attending to the nuances of culture and identity in all aspects of our work together. I will listen on multiple different levels, attuning to the many layers of what you bring to therapy so that we can uncover patterns that may be self-defeating, causing pain, or getting in the way of living a more fulfilling life. I create a safe and confidential space so that together we can find more effective ways for you to achieve your goals.

Finding the right therapist can be a challenge. Some people seek therapy to resolve long-standing issues that have become unmanageable, and others are in the midst of crises that require immediate attention. I tailor my approach to therapy in each case, but always prioritize nurturing a safe and authentic connection with you.

I utilize an attachment-focused, relational approach to therapy, meaning I will consider the impact of your earliest relationships on your present ones, and notice ways that these might play out in our relationship together, too. I have experience working with individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds dealing with issues including anxiety and depression, trauma, eating disorders, disabilities, grief, and major life transitions such as becoming a parent. I specialize in working with anxiety, relationship issues, addiction and recovery, and ADD/ADHD.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.
